About Jay

There are places in the American South where the landscape seems suspended in time; misty bayous at daybreak, cypress trees draped in Spanish moss, and quiet waterways reflecting shifting light and sky. For Louisiana artist Jay Davis, these landscapes are more than scenery—they are deeply personal memories, emotional experiences, and an ongoing source of inspiration.

Working from his studio in downtown Monroe, Louisiana, Davis creates original paintings inspired by the atmosphere, wildlife, and quiet beauty of the South. His work ranges from intimate botanical studies to expansive panoramic landscapes designed to evoke calm, wonder, and emotional connection.

Before returning to Louisiana to devote himself fully to fine art, Davis spent over a decade as a lead animator with Walt Disney Animation Studios, where he developed a deep understanding of visual storytelling, composition, staging, and emotional clarity. Those principles continue to shape his paintings today.

He also holds a degree in architecture from Louisiana State University, an influence seen in the balance, structure, and spatial relationships within his work.

Drawing from his background in animation, Davis relies heavily on composition, gesture, and atmosphere in creating animals and landscapes that feel expressive, appealing, and alive within the painting.

The natural world of Louisiana serves as both inspiration and emotional foundation for his work. Native birds, waterways, cypress trees, magnolias, spider lilies, and the changing qualities of Southern light and atmosphere appear throughout his paintings as expressions of memory, stillness, hope, and connection to nature.

In recent years, Davis’s work has expanded beyond traditional gallery paintings into large-scale public and hospitality projects, including murals for Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo and The Best Is Yet To Come, a panoramic bayou landscape created for guest rooms at The Hotel Monroe, part of the Hilton Tapestry Collection.

Today, Davis creates original paintings, commissions, and large-scale projects from his studio in downtown Monroe.

His work reflects a belief that meaningful art can shape the atmosphere, elevate our daily experience, and remind us of the quiet beauty that surrounds us.
